The restaurant industry is traditionally very grueling and demanding on its employees. Although I loved my team and the camaraderie of it all, I spent many weeks working 50-70 hours.  I had so many amazing opportunities like hosting state-wide meetings on inventory control, and training classes for all hourly trainers in the region. I very quickly became Operation General Manager of my restaurant.  I prioritized my career over my health and wellbeing. It was at this point that I felt more lost than ever. I needed to find my passion. One day as I was training, my trainee had beautiful lashes. It was that moment that I found my spark. I remembered my passions from my youth. I made the decision to uproot my life from central Wisconsin to Madison.

The esthiology program changed my life. I learned to hone in on my passion, I renewed my joy for learning and I learned the importance of balance. I loved the program so much, I came back as an educator. This allows me to combine my passion for education with my passion for the beauty industry. I get to pass on the important lessons I learned onto the next generation.

Meet Melissa,
Licensed Aesthetician

at Annie Aesthetics Co.

Hi, I’m Melissa 🙂

My journey into the world of beauty and balance has taken many twists and turns. Many years of soul-searching lead me to the Esthiology program at the Aveda Institute in Madison, WI. This path eventually led me to starting my own business, Aesthetic Balance, LLC.  After partnering with Annie Aesthetics Co. for over a year, the decision was made to combine practices. I pride myself in helping my clients build confidence through education and balance, and will continue to do so as an employee of Annie Aesthetics Co.

This path started with my own education. Out of high school, I was a very lost soul. I had no idea what I was meant to do in life, or even who I really was as a person.  I took the traditional college route, because that was presented as the only option for success. I have always had a passion for beauty.  I needed to have perfect makeup everyday before school and I needed to take care of my skin, protecting it with moisturizer and spf.  Growing up watching movies like Grease, I saw the beauty industry as a backup plan for people who couldn’t make it into a college program.  🎶Beauty School Dropout 🎶 was a song my sister and I sang in the living room on repeat. So a four year college it was.

Although I have always enjoyed school and learning, I had no passion or enjoyment in this setting. Luckily, I had an amazing advisor who recommended I try enrolling in a Technical College.  I transferred into the associate degree program for Marketing and I felt a spark for learning again.  I had amazing instructors and participated in many organizations like the Student Government Association as well as a Business and Marketing organization. These organizations really propelled my confidence and allowed me to travel the state and the world. I graduated with my associates degree in Marketing, and am forever thankful to my instructors.

This was not the end of my education journey. (Education is a path with no end) Throughout my college career, I was working in the restaurant industry. This was an industry I never imagined working in. I took the job on a whim when I was 19. Little did I know, I would spend 12 years climbing the corporate ladder and building a passion for structure and training.
